Hema Malini is an Indian actress, writer, director, producer, dancer and politician. She is known for her brilliant performance. In 1962, she started her acting career with the Tamil film ‘Ithu Sathiyam’. In 1968, she debuted in Bollywood with the movie ‘Sapno ka Saudagar’. In most of the films, she acted with her husband Dharmendra and along with Rajesh Khanna and Dev Anand. She appeared in more than 150 films. She is also a dancer.
She received eleven nominations for Best Actress for the Filmfare Award. In 2000, she won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012, she honored Sir Padampath Singhania University with the title of Honorary Doctorate to recognize Indian cinema. She also received Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor given by the Indian government. In 2013, she received NTR National Award from the Andhra Pradesh Government for his contribution to Indian cinema.
From 2003 to 2009, hema Malini was elected to the Rajya Sabha as a representative of Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2014, she was elected to the Lok Sabha. Currently, she is also a life member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
Hema malini was born on 16 October 1948 in Jeeyapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Madras Presidency, India. her father’s name was VSR Chakravarty. Her mother’s name was Jaya lakshmi Chakravarty, she was a film producer. Hema has two brothers named R.K. Chakravarty and R.J. Chakravarty. She studied from Andhra Mahila Sabha and Delhi Tamil Education Association Sr. Sec. School, New Delhi. In the 11th class, she started her acting career.

In February 2004, she officially joined the BJP. From 2003 to 2009, she served as an MP in Upper House – Rajya Sabha, the then President of India, Dr. Was nominated by A.P.J. Abdul Kalam In March 2010, she was made the BJP’s general secretary. In the general elections for the Lok Sabha in 2014, she defeated Jayant Chaudhary (RLD) with 3,30,743 votes in Mathura. Then she was elected to the lok sabha. Currently, she is also a life member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
She is a supporter of Animal Rights Organization, PETA India. In 2009, she wrote a letter to the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, in which she urged to ban the horse carriage from the busy streets of Mumbai. In 2011, she wrote to Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Environment and Forest, urging him to ban bull fighting (Jallikattu).
She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. Her daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol are trained Odissi dancers. She performed with charms for charitable programs in a program called Parampara with hema Malini. she studied Kumpipudi with Vimatti Chinna Satyam and Mohiniattam with Kalamandalam Guru Gopalakrishnan. She has played many dance roles including Narsingh and Ram in Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas. She is the owner of the Natya Vihar Kala Kendra Dancing School.

In 2000, she was appointed as the first woman chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation for a period of three years.
