Sania Mirza is an Indian tennis star and one of the world’s top doubles tennis players. From 2003 to 2013, she was able to retain her position as the top Indian tennis player in the women’s tennis association (WTA) singles and double. She  won several tournaments in the Indian local circuit. At the age of 18, she was awarded ‘Padmashri’ award in 2006. She is the youngest player to get this honor. In 2006, she was given the WTA’s ‘Most Impact New Kamar Award’ among the world’s tennis celebrities in the US. Sania has also been honored with ‘Arjun award’.

Personal life :-

Sania was born on November 15, 1986 in Mumbai. Her father’s name is Imran Mirza, He was a sports correspondent. Her mother’s name  is nasima , she used to work in a company related to the printing business. her early education took place in Nasr School, Hyderabad. After that she graduated from St. Mary’s College, Hyderabad. On December 11, 2008, she received an honorary doctorate degree from MGR Educational and Research Institute University in Chennai. Sania started playing tennis at the age of six in the Hyderabad Nizam Club. His father did not have enough money to get professional training. For this, her father took sponsorship from some big business communities. The major ones are Giveke Industries and Adidas. Both of these companies started sponsoring them from the age of 12. Sania’s tennis education started under Mahesh Bhupathi’s father C.K. Bhupati.

Career :-

Sania started her career in 1999 in the World Junior Tennis Championship. After that she attended several international matches. Sania Mirza won the doubles match in Pakistan Intel G5 in that year and reached the finals in singles. In 2000 she won a singles match in India’s ITF-Mumbai G-4 match and reached the semi-finals of the doubles. In 2001 she won the doubles match at India’s ITF Jr. New Delhi GF Mukabale and reached the quarterfinals in the singles match. In 2002 she won the doubles competition in Victorian Championships ITFG-2 and doubles competition in PIC Pretoria ITFG-2.  In 2003, the most interesting turn of her life came when she had won the doubles after entering the wild card from India. At the end of 2005, her international ranking was 42, which was the highest for any Indian tennis player. In 2005, Sania Mirza also won the title of WTA’s Haider Open. This year, Sania Mirza became the subject of discussion in India and the world due to her excellent tennis performance. In the year 2005, she was named the best player in the world. Beaten in the fourth round to beat the Open. Although Sania mirza lost to Sharapova in the fourth round, she was the first Indian woman to reach this place. In 2006 , in the Asian Games in Doha, Sania Mirza won mixed doubles gold medal with Leander Paes. In women’s singles, Sania won the silver medal in the Doha Asian Games. The women’s silver medal was also named for the Indian tennis team – in addition to Sania, Shikha Oberoi, Ankita Manjari and Isha Lakhani were. In 2009, she became the first female player to win the Grand Slam from India. Wimbledon won the title and made history. She defeated Hungarian Petra Mandula in the Australian Open as well as became the first Indian woman to reach the third round of any Grand Slam tournament.

Award :-

In 2004, Sania was awarded the Arjuna Award from the Indian Government. In 2006, Mirza was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government. This is the fourth highest civilian honor in India. In 2015, she was conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and after one year she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honor.

Sania Mirza in controversy:-

In 2006, some newspapers reported that Mirza refused to play doubles with Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer for fear of protests from India’s Muslim community. However, she worked closely with Peer for Stanford’s 2007 WTA Tour in California.

On 4 February 2008, Mirza said that she would stop running in the tennis tournament held in India on the advice of his manager by referring to a series of controversies in tennis tournaments starting next year’s 2008 Bangalore Open. But Mirza decided to participate in Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Sania Mirza, along with Sunita Rao, was violating the dress code at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Parade . In response, she confirmed allegiance to the land of her birth – “the moment of pride in the life of an athlete to go up the national flag on standing on stage and I want to feel for myself in London.”

In 2009, Sania was engaged to her childhood friend Sohrab Mirza, but the engagement broke shortly  and she started appearing with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. On April 12, 2010, she married Shoaib Malik. she got strong responses from many people about this marriage. But she did not care for anyone and supported her husband on every front.

Sania was again in controversy when Sania was brand ambassador of the newly formed Indian state of Telangana in 2014, when BJP leader K Laxman in the Telangana Legislative Assembly pledged her ‘daughter of Pakistan’ and raised her question on giving this honor.

An advocate filed a case against Sania for the outrageous display of the national flag.
